Moore's Pond Beach Committee Meeting Minutes October 24, 2011 @ 6:30 PM Present: Kathy Connelly, Gloria Varno, Jim McRae, Dave Shepardson Meeting called to order at 6:35 PM. Notes: * Minutes of August 15, 2011 meeting unanimously accepted. * The Old Home Day beach party was canceled due to the storm and will be rescheduled to spring. It was suggested for sometime in June after school lets out. Jim said he has people interested in being part of the entertainment. * Kathy is interested in having the Moore's Pond Beach again represented in the Old Home Day parade. She said the children (and adults) who helped out had so much fun. We definitely have to plan something special for the 250th Town celebration. * The raffles at Old Home Day netted us $92 and a donation of $25 by Mary and John Williamson have brought the total in our account to $652.17 which should be enough to pay for the water testing this year since last year was $640. We have not received the bill for this year yet. * The raffle items were won by the following: o The boys basket - Eaden Marti o The girls basket - Rod and Liz Whipple o Gift certificate - Gerry and Marie Whitney o Snow Rake - Leanne Limoges * We discussed how successful the Lasagna dinner was last April and said we would like to plan another one for this coming year. We will finalize details at our next meeting. * Water testing was completed with no problems. This makes 2 straight years of clear water so we should be able to apply for a reduced water testing schedule of monthly instead of weekly. The ConComm told Kathy that we don't apply thru them, and maybe check with the Dept of Health. Kathy will investigate. Gloria suggested contacting the water testing company and they may be able to provide the information we need. * We discussed the Fish Advisory notification that was received. Kathy called the Fish and Game department and was told it is only a warning and not anything to worry about and won't affect swimming. Kathy was given some notices to post and will be posting one on the kiosk at the beach and also at the boat ramp. See the attached notification. It only pertains to eel and pickerel and not the stocked trout. * The dead pine tree at the beach has been removed by the highway department. Kathy said they showed up and within 15 minutes the tree was downed and all remnants removed. * We discussed the ice cutting joint venture with the Historical Society. This February is the test run for the 250th anniversary. Dave is searching for sawdust and Jim gave him a couple names of potential sawmills. Dave is also going to post something asking if anyone locally has ice cutting equipment. He and Dick have saws but if anyone else has anything, that would be great. At our next meeting we will finalize a date and possible 'party' so everyone can watch the festivities. * Kathy brought a copy of the Warwick Dog Bylaws and the first 2 paragraphs pertain to our beach policy regarding dogs. See attached. * Our policy discussion was on boat launching. The following details were discussed. Statement: Boat Launching Policy: No boat launching at the beach. It is encouraged that all boats use the boat launch which is 1/2 mile away. Reason/Justification: Safety of all swimmers. * Kathy is going to get a map and post the location of the boat launch. Dave also suggested a sign be put on the guard rail with an arrow pointing towards the launch. Jim thought that might be too obvious that this is a public access. Since there is a limit of 9.9 HP, we want to try and keep it local and not encourage outsiders launching boats of larger HP. * Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 9, 2012 at 6:30 PM. Agenda to be: o Ice cutting schedule o Dinner plans o Continuation of policies Prepared by: Gloria Varno, Secretary
