Historical Society Minutes June 18, 2008 Meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. There were 13 people in attendance. Secretary's report was approved as read. Treasurer's report approved as read. Total Historical Society accounts are worth $16,174.24. A motion was made and passed that $1,000 of the $3,507.67 in one of the 8-month CD's be transferred to the checking account when it matures on August 21, 2008. The checking account balance as of today is $140.82. Larry Carey said that he needs $200 more for Society expenses. After some discussion, a motion was passed authorizing the Treasurer to release up to $200 at the request of the President to cover extraordinary expenditures between meetings. The $200 requested at the March meeting was used for 6 loose leaf binders and protective coverings for storing and preserving Warwick newsletters dating back to 1977. Pat Lemon is still trying to find the date that the town clock self-destructed. She has reviewed newsletters from 2003 to the present, with no mention found. Documents from the very beginnings of the First Parish will be put on disk and in hard copy form as well. Richard Lincoln's grandmother had the original handwritten documents in her possession for many years. Larry reported that Kevin Hastings from California has been doing research on the Hastings family, and has been in touch with Larry Carey. It was noted that 3 different Hastings families have lived in Warwick. It was suggested that the Society purchase on "OPEN" flag for the Society building to display during the Sunday open hours. A motion was made and passed to this effect. The secretary will send a get-well card to Charlie Brown. Larry reported that he has arranged for Bill Lyman to assess the work that needs to be done on the porch floor of the Society building to make it safe and secure.. Larry reported that the grandson of a gentleman who carried the old flag in the Warwick Memorial Day parade has contacted him, and would like to march in the old Home Day parade this year with the same flag. Larry has a photo of this gentleman. Election of officers will take place at the September 2008 meetings. The officers are in the 2nd year of their two-year term as follows: President - Larry Carey; Vice-President - Charlie Brown; Treasurer - Arline Lincoln; Secretary - Martha Morse.
