Warwick Historical Society Minutes March 17, 2010 The Warwick Historical Society met at 7 p.m. on March 17, 2010 in the basement of the Town Hall. There were 15 in attendance. The business meeting was called to order by Larry Carey following a slide show of lumbering activity in Warwick. The secretary's report was accepted as read. Treasurer Arline Lincoln reported a total of $15,131.15 in the society's checking, savings, and CD accounts. The 8 month and 18 month CDs that matured a few days apart were consolidated into a 7-month CD with a total of $12,320.24. A motion was made and passed to accept the Treasurer's report. Larry pointed out that the funds in the CD's are from gifts to the Society, mostly from Iverson. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Afghans: there are 25-30 left in stock, mostly burgundy, a few blue, and no green. The afghan market seems to be saturated, and discussion followed on how best to sell the remaining supply. . 2. Membership: how many members in the WHS? Arline will determine from who has paid dues. A motion was made and passed to increase the membership fees beginning September 2010 as follows: couple - $15; single - $10, lifetime - $100. Suggestion made to print out card-stock membership cards. Ed Lemon offered to do this. 3. Note cards and brochures: discussion on advisability of producing more historical society note cards, a popular item now depleted. A WHS brochure would also be helpful in publicizing the Society and increasing interest and membership. It was suggested that Nancy Hickler might be willing to provide information at the library what WHS items are available for sale and information on who to contact for purchase. Bev Shepardson sgreed to speak with Nancy about this. 4. Volunteers needed to continue and expand on archival cataloguing project. Can be done at the society building in warm weather, and also on pc at home with items (photos, boxes of articles, etc.) taken home. 5. Audio/video studio: Ed Lemon invited volunteers to use his audio/video camera to interview long-time Warwick residents for an audio/video archive project. Mike Carey then will record the tapes into CD's, which Ed restores with software. This is an excellent way to amass WCS records that can be preserved safely. 6. Suggestions for increasing interest in WCS activities: exchanges with other historical societies; publicizing the WCS section on the town web page, contact Irmarie Jones of The Recorder for article on the archival inventory project; calling and/or emailing members shortly before quarterly meetings; keeping membership list up to date with email and telephone information. Members present provided contact information, and list will be expanded at June meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm. Next meeting is June 16, 2010. Respectfully submitted, Martha Morse, Secretary
