Warwick Historical Society Minutes March 16, 2011 Meeting was called to order at 7:17 p.m. at the Town Hall. Present: Arline Lincoln, Case Vanderstelt, David Shepardson, Bev Shepardson, Calvin Fellows, Freddie Fellows, Deb Paulson, Carol Foote, Nadia Marti, Katie Woods, Patty Ernest, Ann Miner, Jim Toth, Barbara Walker, Martha Morse, Ed Lemon, Larry Carey Secretary's report was approved as read. Treasurer's report: CD $10, 035.34; Savings $4,043.08; Checking $1,432.12. TOTAL $15,510.54 Report approved as read. New Business Larry Carey said the WHS by-laws need to be updated. Martha Morse will begin the process by referring to past meeting minutes and making changes accordingly. Ed Lemon and Martha will consult on any recommended additional changes. Members will once again be asked to sign up to open the Museum on Sunday afternoons in July and August. A calendar will be available at the June meeting for this. We were reminded that at the June 16, 2010 meeting a motion was made and passed that up to $1,000 be put aside for Archival Committee needs. Ed noted that the committee has not yet used any of these funds. WHS membership list passed around to check for accuracy of information. Curator's Report - Ed Lemon 1. At Ed Lemon's request, a MOTION was made and passed to add Deb Paulson, Nadia Marti and Helen Whipple to the Archival Committee. New menu items added to the WHS website Links - other historical commission and societies, Macris Maps and texts - Cobb diaries, Blake history, Amidon gravelist Membership page - under construction Sample membership page approved. New members will complete the page and submit with payment to Arline Lincoln at her home address. Fundraising Ideas: Special exhibit for Old Home Days Deb Paulson reported on preparation for exhibit of garments from 1850 - 1940, and possible tea in conjunction with the Women's Guild. We can possibly get funds from the cultural council for this event. Book/booklet about items in the WHS collection to sell and raise funds, similar to the cookbook prepared with Deb Paulson's help by the Women's Guild. Nadia Marti reported on the "Preservation 101" course she is taking on-line. She reported finding the course very interesting, and made two suggestions that would be beneficial for our Society. (1) to wear white cotton lint-free gloves when handling all paper documents and film to protect them from any oils, perspiration or other damaging substances, and (2) have a fire extinguisher in working condition on each floor of the Museum, and fire extinguisher training from the Fire Dept.
