Coordinator Report June 5, 2014 At the 4/17 Selectboard meeting the board voted to support the line items to increase police wages. At the annual town meeting the FY15 budget was adopted. Since this is not salary and is in excess of the 1.5% applied to most employees, the town accountant is going to want to see the new police hourly wages voted by the Selectboard. The new wage rates are: $14.37 officer; $15.81 sergeant; $17.39 chief and should be effective July 1, 2014. Erving firefighter Ryan Betters would like to purchase the L900 surplus fire truck and with his wife's permission has offered the town $500 for it. I've had the vehicle on craigslist for a few weeks and had one inquiry for scrap. Scrap is currently $100 - $125 a ton and would have to be prepped and delivered to wTe in Greenfield. Since the Town of Erving gave the truck to Warwick at no charge I recommend the board accept his offer. He will attend to tell his story. John Bradford and possibly Reva will be in to discuss a letter that WiredWest requests that the Warwick Selectboard send to reinforce that WW is our partner in bringing "fiber to the home" to our residents. A draft is included in the board package. Axia the operator of the 123 fiber says the build to the cell tower will be done by 20 June. That will be a milestone and bring our customers on that tower up to the level experienced by Mt Grace Tower served customers. Next Tuesday will be the fuel bid opening (second try). Planning board chair Cady has developed extensive testimony for the ZBA hearing of Wagon Wheel's appeal of the Building Inspector's order. My favorite factoid is that "trailers" and mobile home parks have been not allowed since 1970 and the former owner of the campground was on the Planning Board when the ban was established. You've had the appointments list since the prior meeting. It is time to make the FY15 appointments. Let's talk about the timeline and strategy for pursuing Green Communities. Components include the zoning change, the adoption of the "stretch code" and finally the energy use reduction plan. I bid the labor for stripping and replacing the school roof. Bid packages are available beginning 6/11 with a bid opening at 1 pm 6/26. Before the award is made I will have had an exploratory of the gym insulation done. If there isn't a rot problem we may be able to simply apply two or three inches of foam and a new deck on top of the leaking existing insulation and roof. Resident and builder Bruce Carr has agreed to undertake this survey for us on an hourly basis. He is really busy and joins us in being concerned that we do this job right and only once. USDA says we are getting $20k grant toward the new highway truck. The paperwork isn't ready so a site visit meeting with them will happen sometime next week. I am continuing to take Fridays off to catch up on use it or lose it vacation time.
