Town of Warwick Cemetery Commission April 23, 2011 Meeting Minutes Town Hall Meeting was called to order at 11:00 AM by chair Jeff Joyce. Present were Jim Toth, Jeff Joyce, and Ed Hawes. Also present was Miryam Williamson. Minutes of November 23, 2010 and 3/8/2011were read. Minutes as written were moved by Hawes, seconded by Toth and voted all in favor Bills: Toth moved to pay and Hawes seconded. All in favor Power bill for period ending 3/28/2011 of $10.26 Invoice from J&G's Service for $35.50 for 9.3 gallons of gas Still no invoice from George Roaf for the final mowing and leaf pickup of the year was received Pending Burials: Richard Matthews 5/14/2011 11 AM, Alan Miner 5/22/2011 3PM, Thelma Maynard 5/8/2011?, and Jim Lockhead (no date known). Jeff will contact Don & Sharon Matthews to see if they are willing to continue digging graves and if so at what rate. Current rate is $250 for a traditional burial. A letter from Mrs. Hillman inquiring about access to family lots will be responded to by Jeff Joyce. Green Burials: The following rules for natural/green burials were moved by Toth, seconded by Hawes, and voted all in favor. Rules for natural (green) burial approved by the Warwick Cemetery Commission on April 23, 2011 The Warwick Cemetery Rules and Regulations, as proposed in January, 1969, by to natural/green burials as well as conventional burials. These rules are then-commissioners George D. Shepardson, Gunnar Thoren, and J. Arthur Francis apply subject to such amendments as the incumbent commissioners may in future determine. The body of the deceased is to be prepared in an environmentally friendly way; embalming is not permitted. Any clothing or shroud used to cover the body is to be readily biodegradable. Non-degradable objects may not be buried with the body. The body may be brought to the cemetery by an undertaker, or by family and friends of the deceased. A board and straps may be used to lower the body into the grave. The deceased's family and friends may participate in preparation of the grave and in the burial of the body to the extent they desire, subject to approval by the burial agent. Burial in a casket is not required. However, if one is used, it must be made of biodegradable material such as pine or cardboard. Burial depth will be four feet if a casket is used, two feet if burial is directly in the ground. A stone marker not larger than nine inches by twelve inches, engraved with the deceased's name, and the year of birth and death, may be placed flat to the ground at the foot of the grave. Jeff will be working with George Roaf on startup of seasonal maintenance. If weather delays our ability to get work done before Memorial Day, we may need to meet to see if we will need to hire a vendor to assist us in getting ready.
