Warwick Buildings and Energy Committee draft minutes July 18th, 2013, at 7:11 pm June meeting minutes accepted Attending: Jack Cadwell (JC), Janice Kurkoski (JK), Steve Kurkoski (SK), Dan Dibble (DD), Highway Equipment Garage/Salt Shed JK reports that Scott Nichols from Four Season Spray Foam quoted $4k+ to strap over the exterior walls so metal can be installed. JK spoke with Bill Lyman. He estimates about $4k for metal siding and labor. JK shared with the committee information about the greenhouse gas effect of closed cell spray foam, pre formed Urethane foam, and XPS foam. The blowing agents used in manufacturing or spraying these products will offset any energy savings for many years. EPS foam, poly-isocyanurate foam, mineral wool, fiberglass cellulose have much lower environmental impact. Cellulose is the best of all. The open-cell foam proposed for the interior north wall is ok. JC stated that in consideration of the above information it does not sound like using closed cell spray foam is a good choice. It was decided to use 6" EPS sheet foam (R21) for the exterior, strapping, covered with metal. DD walked us through how it would be possible to add a small roof onto the top of the concrete fin angles thereby protecting the new insulation. JK stated that David Young said it is possible to hire a consultant. DD offered to ask Jaylin if she can help with bid language. SK asked if any of the systems deal with ants entering the insulation. JC asked if the detail at the top of the fins should be drawn to explain what we intend to do. JC and SK will measure the top fin detail. JC will then draw it up. PVRS/Warwick School Gail Healy will contact JK with information about when the next Buildings and Grounds committee meeting will be. She said the JCI Energy Co. has looked at all the schools. She sais she gave them our conyacy info, but we have heard nothing about this. Ideas for a replacement for Jim Toth SK reports that Pam Kimball is too busy at this time to be on the committee. DD wrote an invitation stating that we are looking for a new member for our committee. This notice will be put in the newsletter and the Warwick List Serve. Town Hall JC reports that Don Hayward is looking for four more windows to repair. JC will check with David to see if there is money for this work.
