Warwick Building Energy Committee July 18, 2007 Meeting Minutes Chair Janice Kurkoski called the meeting of the committee to order at 7:00 PM at the Warwick Town Hall. Others present were Dan Dibble, Jack Cadwell, Steve Kurkoski, and George Day. Jack is volunteering to restore a window in selectmans office and to come up with a possible way to restore the rest. George Water pit in back of TH has a drain with 4" plastic piped to 12" plastic culvert under road. Pit in back of TH is fed from TH basement drain, elevator drain, drain from behind historical building and drain from across 78 between Ryan and Cooke house. George Is this an ongoing committee or ad hock? What is my commitment? A big problem is that there has been no continuity between 'regimes' of department heads. George Talk about tying in fire dept building to pipe in fountain. George TH now uses a 1 1/2" plastic pipe from the fountain. This pipe has a "T" underground which feeds the Hist. Soc also. George There is one pipe from fountain (?) to the old school left but it is not used (Steves note; not sure what it is made of) George The town needs to winterize the Historical Society water pipe with sawdust or insulation every fall. George 4 pipes drain to overflow behind the Library; 1 pit behind TH, 2 overflow from Fire Dept. holding tank, 3 road culvert from town common, 4 road culvert in front of the Lib. George Water pump in TH was installed for good operation of the flushamatic urinals. George Can we install a solar system for blinking light at the school? George He will bring in checklist of suggestions for next meeting. Dan Lets have a meeting to just go through town records and look for work/suggestions that has already been done regarding maintenance issues. Janice We have a $300/month electric bill for the TH on average. Janice Electrical energy audit was done today. The report will state improvements; 80% paid by grant, 20% town. Janice Auditor suggested replacing TH 40 gal. water heater with a 5 gal. George Can we do the job with an instantaneous heater? Janice Auditor stated almost all the lights in TH are appropriate for change out grant. George He has seen the bathroom lights in the TH on at 5:30AM. Can we install occupancy sensors? Janice Programmable thermostats would be a good idea but they are not on the Energy audit grant list. Steve Who knows how much if any insulation in the ceiling and walls in the TH? George TH rewired 10 to 15 years ago. Jay Blackbird may know. George Warwick Fire Dept has an infrared camera or access to one. Jack Is there any ventilation in attic? Fans? George A lockable thermostats and big thermometer on the wall for the TH may be helpful. George Fire Station attic now has insulation but needs inspection when we do that building. Janice Pat Lemon wants our minutes e-mailed to her. Janice will continue to enter data in energy portfolio Dan Will enter in August newsletter our letter for volunteers. Janice Are we ad hoc committee? Steve Jim Toth will know. Dan We are an advisory committee. Jack Will find owners manual for equipment in TH. George Shutting down computers and peripherals can save. Janice Maybe a sign in each room reading "Remember; Lights out, Computer off when you leave" Blower door test will be good for the TH. It was stated that Jim is checking the TH sump pump exit pipe. Janice Has contacted Steve Clark and Jim Renaud about Library furnace replacement. This information has been forwarded to Nancy at the Library, along with contact info for Mt Tully Heating. Steve Will call Jay Blackbird and see if he can recall if he saw any insulation in TH when he wired it 15 years ago. Jack Will checkout walls and ceiling for insulation in TH. Jack Will check on weatherstrip options for windows and storm windows for TH. Janice Is there a service plan for oil furnaces in the TH? Janice Picked up a book "Vermont Town Energy and Climate Action Guide" at SolarFest in Vermont. She will look through it for any helpful information for us. Janice & Steve turned down both elements temps on the bathroom hot water heater from 120 degrees to 105 degrees. If there are no complaints we can turn it down even lower. Next meeting is scheduled for August 15, 2007. Meeting adjourned at 9:07 PM Minutes by Steve Kurkoski
