Warwick Buildings and Energy Committee Draft Meeting Minutes: June18, 2010 Location: Warwick Town Hall Meeting called to order 6:38 Attending: Janice Kurkoski, Steve Kurkoski, Jim Toth, Jack Cadwell, Dan Dibble, Les Goodman TOWN HALL Bill Lyman is currently removing the west chimney. We need to find out if the chimney has been removed low enough so that it is completely within the thermal envelope of the building. Solar System Pros and cons of a central inverter or ac modules were discussed. We need to move forward on this as the money set aside is supposed to be used by the end of the year. There was some discussion around the issue of "What happens if we don't get the system installed by the end of the year?" Steve will ask BPVS to get the ball rolling. Chimney Do we want to cap the half of the east chimney that is not being used? Do we need a mason to re-point the north chimney? We discussed our own personal experiences in regards to chimney repair. Les will look into the compatibility of brick and mortar and report to David what he finds. Roof David wants to install 50 year shingles over what is there now. After lengthy discussion the committee sees no problem with this. Can we get a tax credit by putting on a light color shingle? Janice will call CET to help us with this issue. Is there any talk about installing a ridge vent? Not that we know of. We should try to keep the temperature of the attic low so that the air conditioning needs of the offices will be reduced. Front Door Some discussion about weather stripping for the front doors took place. Jack will check it out. HISTORICAL SOCIETY BUILDING It is reported that there are some items in the building that are deteriorating. We could not get into the building because the floors have just been painted. Jack reports that there is a mold issue with this building. We can help with this building as concerned citizens, but not as an official committee, as it is not technically a town building. Jack will contact Ed Lemon and discuss purchasing a temperature and humidity meter, set a time for a tour of the building, talk about mold issues, and then make recommendations to the Historical Society. WARWICK CENTER SCHOOL The work on the sprinkler will start as soon as school is out. We need to move forward with getting the specs to issue an RFQ to hire a building performance contractor. Jim will call 3 companies next week or pass the buck to someone else. Jack & Steve will get the data loggers from the school. Meeting adjourned 8:20 Next Meeting: Wednesday, July 21, 2010, 6:30
