Warwick Buildings and Energy Committee minutes May 18th, 2011, at 6.35 pm Attending.. Jack Cadwell, Jim Toth, Janice Kurkoski, Les Goodman, Gunnar Lambert, Mike Mankowski, Brian Miner, and Ron Gates Jim Toth moved to accept the minutes from the last mtg., Les second, all in favor. The Firemen's Association Building Committee reported on the status, design, and timetable for the new safety building. Mike Mankowski is president and Gunnar Lambert is chief. The new Tully fire station was a $1.4 million dollar project, with a solar heated slab and gas back-up. The firemens' association has enough money to prepare the site. Buildings funds will come from Association seed money, grants, and town meeting funds. The building will be town owned and operated. The rough draft has been submitted to three architectural firms for an estimate to draw the plans. Briefly ' the building will be an 85' X 100' steel structure with heated slab, pitched roof, with good solar orientation. The question came up as to whether to roll a solar PV and or a solar thermal system into current grant applications or to consider those options separately. Janice will approach Gerry Polano at MA dept. of Agriculture and other contacts at MA Dept of Energy Resouces and National Grid to see if grants are available for such projects. She will forward info to Brian Miner. Janice had compiled a report on the site visit to the highwy dept. The next step is to contact David Young to see if we can hire a consultant or engineer to advise us on ways to improve the thermal enclosure of the buildings, esp the equip. garage. Jim noted that engineers are exempt from 32B building law. Jim moved that the committee pursue procuring the services of an energy consultant/engineer for the highway equipment building. Les second, all in favor. Nancy Hickler told Janice she would approve of winserts to be made for the library, as long as they were not obtrusive. The library can also use some thermal improvements such as air sealing in the basement and attic, and perhaps added insulation there. Mtg adjourned 8:25 next mtg NOT 3rd Wed in June - date tbd
