Draft minutes Warwick Buildings &Energy Committee Mtg. 3/16/2016 Mtg called to order @6:19 PM Members present: Janice Kurkoski, chair, Jack Cadwell, Dan Dibble, Mary Humphries, Steve Kurkoski Minutes of last meeting approved Discussed the "Green Corner" article for the April Newsletter to be submitted from Elaine Reardon. Further articles were suggested: Heat Pumps in May and Solarize program for June (if accepted) or a review of the work done this year under the Green Communities program. Previewed the IR Camera Workshop to be held at the Metcalf Chapel Sat. 3/19. JK had no new energy #s for Police Station - she will ask David for a recent bill. GREEN COMMUNITIES Town Hall - Janice reported on her & Steve's on-going research to find an air source heat pump system configuration that will satisfy the needs of the office space users. An estimate has been offered by Sam Pomeroy (HVAC co.) for the office spaces only. David Young (DY) has inquired about including the main hall and dining areas. More information is needed before a final recommendation is made to DY and the Selectboard. Discussed remaining /recurring hot water problems in the Town Hall. SK said there are places where pipe insulation is missing and some joints need to be cleaned up. JK said she has been advised of a lightly used Stiebel Eltron on-demand, electric hot water heater for sale for $500. Discussion of other options included: installing the old 80 gal. electric water heater in front of the existing 30 gal. water heater -either as storage or hook it up electrically, a new larger electric water heater, an air-to-water heat exchanger. MH will investigate the durability issues of the Stiebel Eltron on-demand heaters. Kitchen Bathroom: The elec. heat T-stat is often found left on 80*. Beth Gilgun confessed to taping it at 65*. Timers, programmable T-stats, and a new duct off the furnace, and other creative ideas were discussed. For now, Dan will ask DY if we can dis-engage the automatic door closer and make it a policy (sign needed) to leave the door open at all times, exc. when in use. This will keep the bathroom at relatively the same temp. as the main room. Idea of using GC funds to supplement the home-owners cost of implementing energy savings measures identified during a MASS Save audit. Consensus was to not proceed at this time. Highway Equipment Garage Insulation has not proceeded. How can the committee move this work? Consensus was to ask DY what can be done to move the work forward and to make a schedule for Larry with deadlines. This has been going on for at least three years. The security light change-out has not moved forward either. Discussed if this could be returned to GC project list. Reviewed and accepted FY 15 WBEC Report for Town Annual Report Dan handed in a completed Conflict of Interest Test Certificate. NEXT MEETING WED, APR 20, 6PM Meeting adjourned @ 8:32 PM Respectfully submitted, Dan Dibble
