Warwick Buildings and Energy Committee Draft Meeting Minutes, November 17, 2009 Location: Warwick Town Hall Meeting called to order 6:40 Attending: Janice Kurkoski, Steve Kurkoski, Les Goodman, Jim Toth, Jack Cadwell Minutes moved, seconded and accepted for October ANNOUNCEMENTS: North Quabbin Energy will hold a regional meeting for old & new energy committees for all 9 towns in the North Quabbin area, including Shutesbury, Dec 3rd, 7-9pm, at the Millers River Environmental Center, Athol Les and Jack have been reinstated for another 3 year term on the WBEC as of June 1st,2009. TOWN HALL: Not all of the following items were discussed but remain on the TH to-do list; Jack will make the last curtain rod for the meeting room hang last curtain front door closure needs attention close up fresh air vents in dining room, main hall, and at chimney top check BX wire inside east chimney seal chimney vent in boards room finish sealing and insulating the band joists in the basement. gable vent in attic needs to be rebuilt with screen/louvers elec. box in attic over hall light needs to be closed outside door in the kitchen needs a new sweep and some attention to rust make and install more winserts for the offices make list & repair missing exterior clapboards and rotted sections south chimney needs blocking up, both on top and in basement over water pipes concrete repair for bulkhead and window wells. seal the furnace ducts in the basement with mastic & tape as needed. replace broken stair tread in bathroom lobby kitchen chimney - chimney should be parged - need mtrl & bonding agent for 40 sq ft at 1/2" thick (buy at Shanahans') have sheet rock screws, joint compound, and masking tape. Other related Town Hall items: The old storm windows will be stored in the basement and Jack will use the glass to repair broken windows as needed. Jack will make glass winserts for the top windows in the hall (someday). Jack needs to write a contract description for the installation of the new storm windows and give to David. We also discussed using adhesive back foam tape between the new storms and the window frames. This will allow easy removal of the storms when window restoration is performed at a later date. Les reported that 21 winsert frames have been built. Rich Field has been installing the plastic & foam, and is out of some materials. Janice will check with him. We discussed building more for the main hall, and the need to buy more materials. Another Town Hall work day has been set for Saturday December 5th (date chosen in the hopes there are leftovers from the Deer Week dinner). Jim will write up an announcement for the newsletter and the "L". SOLAR IN TOWN: David has sent in application for Clean Energy Choice funds ($5,915). We have 1 written estimate and a list of other contractors who have been contacted. WARWICK CENTER SCHOOL: David would like our committee to give him selection criteria for a contractor to fix the sprinkler system, and also consider warranty & maintenance issues. Jim will contact David in regards to the sprinkler system. Barbara Walker has been named the WBEC liaison to the school. Jim will contact Barbara and ask her to look into the status of the ESCO report and see if she can enlist Van Johnson to help her in dealing with school building issues.
