Warwick Building and Energy Committee Meeting on Thursday, 11/1/07 Attending: Janice Kurkoski, Steve Kurkoski, Jim Toth, Patricia Lemon, Jack Cadwell JK opened meeting at 7:10 JT moved minutes of last meeting SK second minutes No discussion Minutes passed unanimous JK asked about the status of the Community Preservation Act. JT stated that seed has been planted, what is needed is someone to put energy into it. PL stated that opposition is usually money concern. JT stated we would receive .50 on a dollar. Someone said insulation may come under the CPA. PL stated Ted Cady suggested we start with Historical Society. JC has brought the CPA idea to the Historical Society. It didn't go over very well. PL asked how do we insulate and repair window without raising taxes. JT reported that requests to do projects around the Town Hall have yielded 1 volunteer. PL asked what is the window quilt versus honeycomb shade energy savings comparison? JK asked if the Womens Guild or Arts Council can help with window shades or quilts for the TH. JT stated that window dressing will probable exceed the TH budget this year. JC stated that usually storm windows are the best because they are passive. JC has received quote for storms on the TH but does not have them with him. JT stated it costs $200 per unit to repair library storm windows. Steve Chaisson did this work. PL asked JC to email storm window quotes. JC asked if the Fire Dept. infrared camera could view the TH. JT stated we should focus on the TH. JC asked if we get a copy of maintenance schedule from Shutesbury for their buildings. JT stated Leverett has their Highway Supt. be the champion for their TH. JK created a graph for town building electricity use for selectmen. PL stated maybe we should have different categories for organizational ease, e.g., structural maintenance energy cosmetic maintenance JC brought up the idea of the Town Offices moving to the community school. JK asked about the economic target area status. PL asked to have the economic target area information emailed to PL and Rick Abbott so they can get going. JK stated the Library energy kit is started. She will make a list of the items. Local resources for energy issues; Walt Congdon JC Steve Greenwald; Energy star homes SK NESEA green pages JK stated for the Warwick light bulb exchange program National Grid will give us 50 free CFL bulbs. Maybe give one bulb per person and sign a pledge at the Library. PL asked if the Transfer Station takes CFL's. JC will write a letter to Reva about CFL recycling. PL suggested a possible Jan., Feb Arts Council CFL program. JK suggested a table at the Dec 8th Holiday Crafts fair.
