Teaching artist Renee Malowitz and creative writing instructor Rhonda Hamer join to provide an all ages project combining poetry and art on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 from 1 to 2:30 pm at the Warwick Town Hall, sponsored by the Warwick Women's Guild. Participants will create a watercolor resist paper of their own design as well as pen their own poem in calligraphy marker, combining the two to create three laminated book marks suitable to give as gifts or mark a page in a favorite book. Poems by others will be made available as examples or for copying. This program provides an opportunity to create simple yet beautiful art as well as expose participants to the processes of writing poetry and using calligraphy markers. It is an opportunity for community members to come together in a relaxed setting and create. Ms. Malowitz and Mrs. Hamer have been teaching in their various fields for many years. Renee Malowitz has been a teaching artist for over 30 years including a classroom instructor, freelance artist, business owner, theater design/artist and consultant. Ms. Malowitz also sketches and paints. Mrs. Hamer has been teaching for over 20 years and has been a freelance writer and photographer, tutor and instructor. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Warwick Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. The program is free and all are welcome.
